Studentprig - Increase Fin Aid

We have a huge opportunity right now to make college more affordable.

Congress is considering increasing funding for financial aid programs like the Pell grant, but they're under a lot of pressure from banks not to act. Congress needs to hear from students that programs like the Pell grant are critical to our ability to go to college.

Students across the country have set up Facebook groups to show their support for making college more affordable. Please join the Facebook group for your state:
http://studentpirgs.org/action/higher-ed/facebook-petition

The cost of a college education is skyrocketing. On average, we're graduating with $17,500 in student loan debt - that makes searching for jobs, paying rent, and saving money after college a big challenge. And hundreds of thousands of qualified high school graduates are choosing not to go to college at all because of the high cost.

One solution is to shift higher education funding in this country from banks to students. The federal government currently gives $47 billion in excessive subsidies to banks and student loan companies like Sallie Mae. By taking away this handout we could fund big increases in financial aid for students.

But banks are fighting back against that idea - they're lobbying hard to prevent increases in funding for financial aid.

We deserve to graduate college without a mountain of debt. Not only is this better for us as students, but it's also better for our society and our economy.

Show your support for making college more affordable by joining our Facebook group. Help us build this group up to big numbers and show our Senators that students want them to act:

Summer CCE Internship

Recruitment for the next class is coming to a close. Please schedule an interview if you wish to participate in this rotation!

This program is another branch of COPE Health Solutions' pre-health internship programs. It is running at Barlow Respiratory Hospital, which is near Dodger Stadium (the other Barlow locations are currently being opened up to our program). Aside from the hospital floor experience, this program offers physician shadowing (through a physician that allows CCEs as well as UCLA med students to follow him), as well as a hospital administration rotation. After doing 3 rotations in this Barlow program, CCEs are allowed to transfer to any of the "high-demand" departments, including the operating room, the emergency room or labor and delivery. Students will be able to rotate to these "high demand" departments in any of the hospitals in LA that have a CCE program. The program requirement is one 4hr shift per week. The entire program will run about a year, with each rotation lasting about 3 months.
